Mosquitoes — Carriers of Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya

Mosquitoes are the deadliest animals on the planet due to the diseases they transmit. In Delhi NCR, three mosquito-borne diseases pose the greatest public health risk: dengue fever (transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which breeds in clean stagnant water and bites during the day), malaria (transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito, which bites from dusk to dawn), and chikungunya (also transmitted by Aedes aegypti). The monsoon season from July to September dramatically increases mosquito breeding as rainfall creates stagnant water in cooler tanks, flower pots, drains, and construction sites. Delhi NCR reports thousands of dengue cases every monsoon season. Effective mosquito control requires eliminating breeding sites in addition to killing adult mosquitoes, as chemical knockdown alone provides only temporary relief.
